I have been remarkably blessed in the food department recently. I love my grandma so much!! What would I ever do without her? Last night we had a traditional Asian dinner, which is rare because Grandma always has her own take on food. She learned how to cook late in her life and so picked up a lot of western cooking before she picked up Asian cooking. Dinner usually ends up a rather odd mix of fusion - a casserole or crumbed baked fish with rice and Asian stir fry, or Charsiew pork with baked potatoes and potato and leek soup, or rendang and minestrone soup. It's all rather odd but I've grown up loving everything!
So last night grandma went Asian. Rice, asam belly pork (I think it's the layers of fat that makes it so yummy), fermented bean curd (smells terrible but tastes so good), beans in dried shrimp (mmmm Hei bi!), emperor chicken (the herbs come in a packet, it might be cheating, but it tastes good!). Not pictured: Bak Kut Teh... also in a packet but also tasty. Perth has no shortage of instant asian packet foods! I made Laksa from a packet a few months ago and the family didn't complain.
Last night was especially tasty because Andrew and I just came back from another camping/Margaret River trip, and we brought back lots of fudge and 11 bottles of wine. So Rebekah, Cheng, Andrew and I, we finished off the fudge (Smugglers flavoured: Irish cream and rum) and polished off a bottle of Stella Bella's Sauvignon Blanc :) And not to mention, one of the girls at Chemcentre brought boxes of homemade brownies and chocolate cupcakes and I ate so much of that too!
Now I feel very naughty, and I should exercise. I should mention that I cycled to uni last week! About 30km there and back! It was a pleasant ride and I am thinking of doing it again once the rain starts to ease. Need to exercise - I'm doing the 12km city to surf at the end of August!
And another one of my indulgences... Andrew buys me chocolate frequently. Note the half eaten toblerone bar next to my lunch box :) I am soooo spoilt!
