Andrew is quite the outdoorsman (despite being an engineer and thus quite the geek as well). He can fix cars broken down on the side of the highway using duct tape and a bicycle repair kit, he can set up a tent and tie all sorts of knots including the mighty dragon bowline, he can fix the irrigation pump system on my farm... and he can make fire!


He bought flint and steel from an outdoor camping store on ebay and he showed me how to make a fire. No matches or lighters, and it is most impressive. Handy and reliable too, more so than matches or lighters. I find it so incredibly attractive, there is just something so primal about a man who can start a fire! And back in the caveman days... once they moved on from wooden bow drills, they were effectively using flints and tinders to start a fire. I don't know if we would survive very long in caveman days... but a least we would have a fire! Andrew taught me how to do it and I mastered it after a few goes.
